Sharing Minutes
Most of the plans offer sharing of a pool of minutes. After a base fee of $50 or $60 per month you can add another phone for $10 a month.   Do not share a plan with someone you are not certain will pay their bill.

Shared Phone Plan Problems
I have a friend that was sharing a plan with his girlfriend. The contract was in his name. She got mad and left and took the phone. Before he realized it she had rung up over $1000 in overage expenses–she met a guy from Canada. He was left holding the bill.

Calling Canada
With many of the US Cellphone plans you will be able to call Canada. You need to check the price per minute before you do. It can be very expensive.
